Railway stations in Lower Saxony |
The Stade Train Station is located on the Lower Elbe Railway in Lower Saxony, which connects the cities of Hamburg and Cuxhaven, and is the largest transportation hub of the Hanseatic city of Stade . It was opened in 1881 and is now a pure local transport stop.
history
When the Niederelbebahn from Harburg was opened on April 1, 1881, Stade was the end of the line for six months. Then the second part to Cuxhaven was put into operation. Electrification from Hamburg took place in 1968 and ends in Stade. On October 1, 1898, the line to Bremervörde was opened. This route was taken over in 1992 by the Elbe-Weser Railways and Transport Company (EVB). In 1993 the regular passenger traffic on this route was stopped. Tourist trains run on this route in summer. From June 13, 1899 to November 15, 1933, the Kehdinger Kreisbahn ended at the station forecourt . For goods traffic, an approximately 10 kilometer long industrial main track is served from Stade to Bützfleth, it is operated as a station track. Between the early 1980s and 1996, the track had an electrical contact line, but it was not used during operation.
Track systems
Stade train station is in an approximate west-east direction. The passenger station facilities used to be more extensive. There were four platform tracks. Platform 5 with the southern side platform was available for trains from Bremervörde. Today only traces of track remain. Track 3 was converted into a stump track in the course of the modernization. This is where the S-Bahn ends today. Your parking facility, which was built in 2007, is located directly on track 3 in the direction of Buxtehude. It can only be approached from track 3. There is an island platform between track 2 and track 3. Track 1 is on the house platform. In the direction of Buxtehude there are overtaking and stabling tracks north of the main line. There used to be sidings at the west end of the station, but these were hardly used in the last few years until they were dismantled in 2007. Electric locomotives and railcars were parked here. About a kilometer in the direction of Cuxhaven, there are still two points to change tracks, and the electric track ends a little later. There are several sidings east of the station building for freight traffic, and a loading street and a head ramp are still connected. However, in 2015 a large part of the former freight yard is without tracks.
traffic
Since the timetable change in December 2007, the regional trains operate with a diesel locomotive of the series 246 and double-deck coaches from Hamburg via Stade to Cuxhaven. From December 2007 to December 2018, the trains were operated by the Metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft , and since December 2018 by the DB Regio subsidiary Regionalverkehr Start Deutschland . They replaced the Regional Express trains at the time, which consisted of n-type cars , most recently with a class 218 locomotive . Until December 2007, regional trains also ran on the Hamburg – Stade route. These were from an electric locomotive of the series 143 driven with n-car. Since 2007 runs instead for the S3 line of the S-Bahn Hamburg with EMUs of series 474.3 from Pinneberg to Stade.

Trivia
- A ten-part ICE 1 came to a large station festival in Stade in 1993, for which platform 3 was still too short.
- As part of a student project, two railcars of the Karlsruhe tram / S-Bahn drove for a few days in 1994 to present the “Karlsruhe Model” in Stade. In addition, special trips to Horneburg and back were offered. The project was never pursued further.
