Josef Miller (architect)

Franz Josef Miller , also Franz Joseph Miller (* in the 19th century ; † in the 20th century ) was a German architect .

Life

Franz Josef (or Joseph) Miller passed the first state examination in construction in 1881 and was appointed government building supervisor in 1884 (term for a trainee lawyer in the public building administration). The designation used as "Franz Josef Miller von Friedrichshafen " could refer to the place of birth, but is not a clear evidence.

In any case, Miller was later based in Friedrichshafen and built the Villa Riß and the Villa Jehle there, among other things . Peter Renz referred to him in connection with these doctor's residences built in the 1890s as "Hofwerkmeister" and called him the "local star architect". Another building by Josef Miller in Friedrichshafen is the neo-Gothic Villa Miller, Zeppelinstrasse 9, built in 1904 or 1907/1908 , which is now a listed building. It was inhabited by Miller himself.

Josef Miller married Anna Angele. Their daughter Anna was born in 1889 and married Karl Gehlen in 1913 .

Villa Miller was put up for sale in 2004. The property was then owned by the city and was vacant. A renovation under monument preservation conditions was too expensive for the city of Friedrichshafen; Critics described the sale of Miller's former residence, the market value of which was then estimated at 570,000 euros, as selling "silverware".
