The Alliance of Islamic Congregations in Northern Germany (BIG) eV is a regional association founded by Muslims in Neumünster and based in Hamburg . It is a member of the Islamic Council for the Federal Republic of Germany . The alliance organizes local mosque communities with a focus on Hamburg (nine mosques, including the Centrum Mosque ), Schleswig-Holstein (five mosques, including the Centrum Mosque in Rendsburg ) and Lower Saxony (two mosques).

In addition, the BIG maintains three educational institutions that regularly give lessons in the Koran and Islam to children and young people between the ages of 9 and 17 on weekends and holidays . The children spend the night in the youth homes, which are located in Harburg, Seevetal and Wilhelmsburg.

The chairman of the alliance is Ramazan Ucar, who after a classical training in Turkey was taught in an “Imam Hatip” high school, later in Germany in the Centrum Mosque. He was then sent to Syria by the then imam to study theology and Islamic studies. Today, in addition to his role as chairman, Ucar is also one of the imams of the Centrum Mosque .

The alliance strives for charitable projects and is recognized as such by the tax office.

The alliance conducts regular mosque tours that are offered free of charge. In the supporting mosque (Centrum-Moschee Hamburg) of the association alone, more than 8,000 people - mainly schoolchildren, confirmands, vicars, police officers and soldiers - took advantage of this opportunity to get to know Islam in 2005.

In addition, the alliance holds a large iftar reception every year on the occasion of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan . In addition to numerous SPD politicians from Hamburg, the deputy mayor Nebahat Güclü ( GAL ) and Major General Johann-Georg Dora from the Bundeswehr attended the last reception as guest speakers.

According to its own statement, the alliance is committed to “a peaceful and tolerant Islam ”.

The Hamburg State Protection -Head Heino Vahldieck indicates that in the alliance, the Islamic Community Milli Görüs (IGMG) dominated. The Hamburg Constitutional Protection Report 2005 describes the "Alliance of Islamic Communities in Northern Germany eV" as a branch (regional association) of the IGMG. The association sees itself only as a "cooperation partner" of the IGMG. Nevertheless, she takes part in events and meetings of the IGMG leadership and is actively involved in the orientation and work of the IGMG.
