Neuenfelde ( Low German : Neefeld ) is a district of Hamburg . It is on the western edge of Hamburg and to the left of the Elbe at Mühlenberger Loch , between Cranz and Finkenwerder . With Cranz and Francop , Neuenfelde represents the Hamburg part and east of the Elbmarsch cultural landscape Altes Land . The Airbus plant in Finkenwerder is located northeast of Neuenfelde .

history

Memorial stone for the 950th anniversary of Hasselwerder's first mention.

Neuenfelde emerged from the villages of Saschfeld and Niefeld , on the former Elbe island of Hasselwerder, originally Haslewarther and first mentioned in a document from 1059. The prefix Hassel refers to hazelnut bushes, Werder is the name of the river island. Like the other surrounding areas, Hasselwerder was settled by Saxons early on . Niefeld or Nigefeld is the newer field compared to Saschfeld in Saxony .

Since around 1140, Dutch settlers have been brought into the country to build dykes and to cultivate the lower inland areas. From them u. a. also founded Nincop. When that was is not known here either. The place was first mentioned in documents in 1257.

These villages founded by the Dutch were called Marschhufendörfer . According to the " Hollerrecht ", they were allowed to regulate their church and legal affairs independently and were also entitled to settlement land.

For a long time, these two population groups lived next to each other rather than together. Due to storm surges , dike protection and weddings, the places grew more and more into one community from the beginning of the 15th century.

Growing difficulties in the development of the individual places - u. a. Right of way, irrigation and drainage, schools - all of the facilities were established, such as the Neuenfelde parish at the end of the 15th century, the Neuenfelde school , the Neuenfelde post office or the Neuenfelde registry office . In 1929, with the consent of the Stader government, this led to the merger of the two communities of Hasselwerder and Nincop to form the new community of Neuenfelde.

But Neuenfelde could not remain an independent municipality for a long time. First Neuenfelde went on 1 August 1932 by the county Jork in the district of Harburg through to 1937 by the " Greater Hamburg Act " to lose its independence and become connected as a new community in Hamburg.

The storm surge in 1962 caused severe destruction in Neuenfelde as a result of numerous dike breaches and claimed ten lives.

Politics & Law

After the failed attempt by the city of Hamburg to expropriate land that it lacked for the extension of the Airbus runway to the center of Neuenfelde, Airbus implemented this runway extension without the unacquired land in a plan change procedure. Hamburg administrative judges waived a new needs test in an urgent procedure and were able to lift the construction freeze. In the spring of 2006, construction began in the north-west of Neuenfeld, so the medieval ring dike around the "rose garden" was broken to extend the runway to the south-west. The new section of the railway was inaugurated on July 16, 2007.

The church is u. a. famous as the Arp Schnitger site, as the master organ builder found his final resting place in the church. Regular events

Neuenfelder Markt : On the first Saturday in September, since 1978, almost all clubs, institutions and groups from Neuenfelde and Francop invite you to the revived “Neefeller Markt” around the Neuenfeld Church. The prelude is a lantern parade for children the evening before, led by the march of the Neuenfelder Schützen.

From late morning on market day, children's flea market stalls line the organist's path near the church, in which annually changing exhibitions can be seen. Shortly afterwards, the market stalls of the associations that provide information and food open on the church forecourt, and the children's play area with bouncy castle, water feature with fire hose, pony rides and other play stations. The traditional highlight - framed by local music and dance performances - is the competition of many club teams for the "Wanderfloh". At the end there will be folk songs, singing along to the boatman's piano and performed by the “Frohsinn” Francop song board.
