Matthias Arfmann
Matthias Arfmann (* 1964 in Bremen ) is a German musician and music producer from Hamburg .
biography
After studying piano and singing, Matthias Arfmann founded the Castrated Philosophers with Katrin Achinger in 1983 . Together they released nine albums with changing musicians in different genres until they disbanded the band in 1997. Already during his time with the castrated philosophers, Arfmann began producing music, first his own songs and albums, then also those of other punk and rock bands. He founded his first studio, the bone house studio in the Hamburg district of St. Pauli , in which, among other things, the early Blumfeld singles Slow Motion and Traum: 2 were recorded.
As a music producer and artist, Arfmann has published well over 150 LPs and CDs. With the beginning of the hip-hop hype at the beginning of the 1990s, Arfmann u. a. with Patrice , Jan Delay and the Absolute Beginners to one of the most sought-after music producers in this genre.
In the early 1990s, Arfmann also began working with German hip-hop bands. After taking part in productions of Advanced Chemistry , Cora E. and Fischmob , among others , Ale Sexfeind , founder of the Buback label , introduced him to Jan Delay . Arfmann produced Flashnizm , the first album by the Absolute Beginner, and a long and successful collaboration began that continues to this day. Arfmann was nominated for the production of the album Bambule for the Echo Pop 2000.
In addition to his work for Absolute Beginner and Jan Delay, Matthias Arfmann now owns a studio in the Neuenfelde district on the southwestern edge of Hamburg. The converted apple store, which is also where his apartment is located, is called Turtle Bay Country Club . Musicians of the most varied genres can record and produce here. For example, the former James Brown drummer Tony Cook recorded an album with Matthias Arfmann, as did the singer Mahmoud Gania, who is known in Morocco .
Arfmann also publishes his own recordings in the dub genre under the name Turtle Bay Country Club . The album Recomposed was released under his own name on the classic label Deutsche Grammophon in 2005 , in which he remixed old recordings by the conductor Herbert von Karajan . In 2007 he worked with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra on a live version of the Recomposed album.
In 2007 Arfmann von Recht harmonisch , the setting of the German Basic Law by Thomas Bierling , Peter Lehel and Eva Weis produced a remix with the title Dub'l G - The details regulate a federal law .
In 2016 he released the album Ballet Jeunesse , on which he reinterpreted ballet classics such as Pyotr Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker or Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird with electronic elements.
