Quite harmonious - The Basic Law set to music is a music album by Thomas Bierling , Peter Lehel and Eva Weis .

Quite harmonious appeared in 2005 on the label Antes Edition . It is the setting of the 19 fundamental rights of the German Basic Law .

History of origin

The composition Recht harmonisch was created in 2005 as part of the application of the city of Karlsruhe as European Capital of Culture . The motto of the application was “Rightly” and emphasized the value of law as a cultural asset. The singer Eva Weis describes her motivation for the project as follows:

“The 19 basic rights of the Basic Law form the basis of our community. The point is to free this fact from the brittle shell of the legal text and to bring it into an emotionally tangible form. "

The Karlsruhe composer and pianist Thomas Bierling developed the artistic concept and the composition . The saxophonist and jazz prizewinner Peter Lehel was also enthusiastic about the experimental concept, so a composition for piano, saxophone and voice was created that processed the basic rights described in the Basic Law in 19 sequences .

Stylistically, one can classify quite harmoniously between new music and free jazz .

Remix version

In 2007 a danceable remix version by Matthias Arfmann was released under the title Dub'l G - The details regulate a federal law . Arfmann is known as the (co-) producer of Jan Delay , Patrice and the Beginner . The CD was released as a double edition with original and remix on the Yeotone label (YT 07.001). Arfmann has produced six new tracks from the original recording:

  1. Moral Law - 03:03
  2. Serving Peace - 04:29
  3. Ownership / cultural contact - 05:41
  4. Equality - 6:00
  5. There is no censorship - 04:20
  6. Free moves - 04:35

Arfmann describes his motivation for the remix as follows:

“When I heard about the project 'Quite harmonious' and learned that the musicians had also performed in the Stammheim prison , my interest in the project was aroused. At first I just thought: How can you 'sing' basic laws to the prisoners? The mere presence of the prison in Stammheim and the situation of the prisoners 'housed' in it has occupied me again and again in my life. Both as a young person, who at the time felt very strong sympathy for the RAF , and today, when the RAF no longer plays a role in current political events. What do z. B. those still imprisoned today? The attraction of combining the texts of the German Basic Law with music is already great. I have tried to put individual sentences and articles in a different context, to arouse other associations, to musically 'play' what in my opinion is ALSO about in the corresponding passage in the Basic Law. Because in general there are beautiful and unfortunately often only dreamy passages in this law. Wishful thinking, so to speak. The interpretation in the harsh reality leaves something to be desired every day. My work is intended to give impetus not to treat minorities in German society in particular as undesirable lepers, but to be aware of one's responsibility as a person in Europe. The boat is not full.
