Deniz Barış (born July 2, 1977 in Kemah ) is a former German - Turkish soccer player .

childhood

At the age of six months, Barış moved with his family to Hamburg , where he grew up in the Neuenfelde district .

Career

Barış began his career in Germany at SV Este 06/70 , with whom he played in the national league. In 1999 he began his professional career at FC St. Pauli , for which he made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1999/2000 season . In 2001 he scored the club with his header against 1. FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga. In 2002 he returned to Turkey and moved to Gençlerbirliği Ankara . With this club he reached the Turkish Cup final and thus qualification for an international competition. In 2003/04 he was instrumental in ensuring that Gençlerbirliği reached the UEFA Cup round of 16 . In the successes over Blackburn Rovers , Sporting Clube de Portugal and AC Parma as well as the end against Valencia CF , he played all eight games. At the end of the season Barış moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul , where he spent the next six years. With Fenerbahçe he was Turkish champion in 2005 and 2007 . He has been playing for Antalyaspor since the 2010/11 season .

On March 12, 2003, he played for the Turkish national football team for the first time in the friendly against Ukraine . In June 2003 he took part in the FIFA Confederations Cup with the Turkish national team , where he finished third. In the summer of 2014 he left Antalyaspor with the end of his contract.

Private

At the end of July 2006, Barış's partner died after falling down stairs in the shared house in Jork . The sympathy of many Turkish first division clubs, some of which published expressions of mourning on their club websites, was exceptional. Barış former German club FC St. Pauli played in black ribbon after the accident. Barış is the patron of the initiative group Help for Halit Eray and others . Together with the football pros Ahmet Kuru and Rafael van der Vaart , Barış, in cooperation with the German bone marrow donor database DKMS, supports the search for a suitable stem cell donor for a young boy from the Hamburg district of Wilhelmsburg .
