Dimet
According to tradition, Saint Dimet ( Aramaic : Mar Dimet ; Latinized: Dometius ; † 363 at Nisibis ) was a Persian doctor and Christian martyr .
Lore
Like Saint Paul , he is said to have persecuted Christians first before he was converted to Christ . He was baptized in Nisibis, then lived in a monastery in Erzurum , where he was ordained a deacon, and finally as a hermit in a cave in Tur Abdin , where he had great influence on the inhabitants of nearby Nisibis. Therefore he was stoned at the instigation of Emperor Julian .
Remembrance day
In the Roman Catholic Church , his commemoration is on August 7th; but it is not recorded in the general Roman calendar .
Churches
In Germany in Hamburg-Neugraben there is a church dedicated to Saint Dimet, in Sweden in Jönköping a church of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch . Several churches in Tur Abdin ( Taşköy , İzbırak ), in Lebanon and a monastery in his place of work Qelith (Killit) also bear his name.
