Norbert Bull

Norbert Stier (born May 16, 1953 in Grebenhain ) is a major general a. D. of the army of the Bundeswehr . In his last employment, he was Vice President for Military Affairs of the Federal Intelligence Service from 2010 to 2015 .

Military career

Training and first uses

After graduating from high school, Stier joined the German Armed Forces in July 1973 with Feldjäger Battalion 640 in Worms-Pfeddersheim . In 1974/1975 he was deployed as a patrol and platoon leader in Feldjäger Battalion 390 in Marburg and Koblenz . He then moved to the armored troop school in Munster in 1976 , before completing a degree in economics and organizational science at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich until 1980, with a degree in business administration . From 1981 to 1984 he was employed as platoon leader and company commander in the 133rd Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Wetzlar . 1985–1987, he participated in the 28th Army General Staff course at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg .

Service as a staff officer

Stier's first assignment as a staff officer was at the post of G2 ( military intelligence ) with the staff of the 5th Panzer Division in Diez an der Lahn. In 1989 he took part in the Canadian General Staff Course. This was followed by a position in the Federal Ministry of Defense and a position as an arms control officer in the Foreign Office . Then there was another deployment of troops as commander of the Jägerbataillon 522 in Fürstenau from 1993 to 1994. In 1995 Stier was transferred to NATO in Brussels and in 1998 he became G2 of the II Corps in Ulm . from 1999 to 2001 he was an army attaché at the embassy in Washington, DC and at the end of 2001 set up the German liaison command to CENTCOM in Tampa , Florida . Until 2004, there was a further use in the field of military intelligence as J2 in the operational command of the Bundeswehr .

Service in the rank of general

From 2004 to 2006 Stier led the Mountain Infantry Brigade 23 in Bad Reichenhall , before he became commander of the Army Officers' School in Dresden until 2008 . From July 2008 until his transfer to the BND as Vice President for Military Affairs in 2010, he was Deputy Head of the Intelligence Division of NATO's International Military Staff .

On November 25, 2015, Stier was retired in the new BND headquarters in Berlin-Mitte .

In 2005 Norbert Stier was the commander of the Multinational Brigade Southwest and the 11th / 12th. German contingents of the KFOR in Kosovo .

Norbert Stier is married and has two sons and two daughters.
