Wolf-Dieter Langheld (born December 8, 1950 in Bochum ) is a retired general . D. of the army of the Bundeswehr . In his last employment before retirement, he was Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Joint Force Command in Brunssum from September 2010 to December 2012 .

Military career

Training and first uses

After graduating from high school, Langheld joined the 2nd Company of the Panzergrenadier Battalion 191 in Ahlen in the service of the German Armed Forces in 1971. After his engagement as an officer candidate and officer training, his first tasks were as platoon leader and as an officer in the staff of the 191 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Ahlen . Then Captain Langheld served as a company commander in the 193 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Münster-Handorf .

Service as a staff officer

From 1983 to 1985 he completed the 26th general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg , was then promoted to major and then served as a G2 officer (intelligence service) in the 7th Panzer Division in Unna until 1987 . From 1987 to 1988 he took part in the Italian general staff officer course at the Scuola di Guerra in Civitavecchia .

Back in the Federal Republic of Germany, Lieutenant Colonel Langheld took over the post of Operations Officer (G3) in the Army Office (Department I 1 (1)) in Cologne from 1988 to 1990 . From 1990 to 1992 he led the 302 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Ellwangen and was then transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . Here he was employed as a consultant in the command staff of the Army (FüH IV 1; Organization) until 1993 . From 1993 to 1995, Colonel Langheld served as Chief of Staff of the Multinational Division (Central) in the JHQ Rheindahlen , after which he returned to the Ministry of Defense and was in charge of Section VI 3 (Army Development) in the Army Command Staff until 1998. During this time he was from October 1997 to March 1998 as Secretary of the Chief of Staff of SFOR in Sarajevo .

Back in Bonn, Langheld took on a position as head of division in the command staff of the armed forces from 1998 to 1999 (FüS VI 3; Bundeswehr planning).

Service as a general

In March 1999, Langheld was appointed Brigadier General to lead the 21st Panzer Brigade in Augustdorf . He was once again in command of the troops, which he led until 2002. With parts of the brigade he completed a foreign assignment within the framework of KFOR from December 2000 to June 2001 and during this time was commander of the German army contingent there and commander of the Multinational Brigade South in the Prizren field camp .

After serving as a brigade commander, Langheld was appointed general of the armored forces and commander of the armored forces school in Munster in 2002. Subsequently, from 2003 to 2005, he was employed as a department head in the command staff of the armed forces (FüS VI; planning). In 2005 he received another troop command as commander of the 1st Panzer Division in Hanover and was appointed major general. He handed over this command to Markus Kneip on December 19, 2008 .

Already on December 10, 2008, Langheld took over from Jan Oerding the post of commander of the operational command for intervention forces in Ulm . Associated with this was the appointment as lieutenant general . He held this command until September 30, 2010 and handed it over to Markus Bentler . The day before, on September 29, 2010, Langheld finally took over the NATO post of commander of the Allied Joint Force Command in Brunssum, with the appointment of General von Egon Ramms . On November 28, 2012, Langheld was retired with a big tattoo from the Federal Minister of Defense Thomas de Maizière . On December 14th, he handed over the business to his successor in this post, Hans-Lothar Domröse .

Private

Langheld is married and lives in Lage (Lippe).
