Anton-Detlev von Plato (born June 6, 1910 in Grabow near Lüchow ; † October 12, 2001 ibid) was a German lieutenant general in the Bundeswehr .

Life

Anton Detlev von Plato, born on the Grabow estate near Lüchow, was the son of the manor owner Eberhard von Plato and comes from the von Plato family . After the Abitur examination at the Humanist Gymnasium in Salzwedel , he joined the 14th Reiter Regiment in Ludwigslust of the Reichswehr on April 1, 1930 . Promoted to lieutenant in 1933, Plato was regimental adjutant and company commander in the 3rd Rifle Regiment. Plato completed his general staff training at the War Academy from October 1940 to January 1941 and became Ib of the 1st Panzer Division , quartermaster in 1942/43 and Ia of XXXXVI. Panzer Corps and the 5th Panzer Division . Von Plato ended the Second World War as Colonel and Chief of the General Staff of the IV Panzer Corps "Feldherrnhalle" and was subsequently a British prisoner of war until 1947.

After an agricultural apprenticeship, Plato worked as an expert in the Blank office from 1952 and was taken on as a colonel in the Bundeswehr in 1955. Initially in an integrated role at SHAPE , he became teaching group commander at the armored troop school in Munster (Örtze) in 1957 . From 1958 to 1960 he was employed as a German military representative at the NATO military committee in Washington, DC , after which he was promoted to brigadier general in command of the armored forces school . From October 1, 1963, von Plato commanded the 1st Panzer Grenadier Division , was promoted to major general in 1964 and again in integrated employment from 1966–1968: this time as Chief of Staff at NATO staff NORTHAG . Most recently, he served as Lieutenant General Commander of the Territorial Defense Command . He retired from active service at the end of March 1970.
