Rudolf Reichenberger

Rudolf Reichenberger (* 6. July 1919 in Warmensteinach , Fichtelgebirge ; † 26. September 1993 ) was a German lieutenant of the German Wehrmacht and later lieutenant general of the German Federal Armed Forces .

Life

Reichenberger, whose parents owned a tourist business in Fleckl, entered the Wehrmacht as an officer candidate in 1938 after graduating from high school in Bayreuth . He completed his officer training at the armored forces school on April 1, 1940 with the promotion to lieutenant . During the Second World War he found various uses and was promoted to first lieutenant on April 1, 1942 . At the end of the war he was first captured by the US and then by French captivity, from which he was released in the summer of 1947. He then began to study German , literature and newspaper studies and in 1948 began a traineeship in the editorial department of the Augsburger Tagespost . After they were hired at the end of 1949, he switched to the Schwäbische Landeszeitung as editor .

In 1956 Reichenberger joined the army of the Bundeswehr as a captain and between 1958 and 1960 he graduated from the general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg , whereupon he was first an operations officer in the G 3 department and then a lieutenant colonel and head of the G 1 department in the staff of the II Corps was in Ulm .

In 1965 he became a consultant in the internal leadership subdivision in the Federal Ministry of Defense . As the successor to Colonel Rüdiger von Reichert , Colonel Reichenberger became commander of Panzergrenadierbrigade 11 "Bayerwald" in Bogen on July 1, 1969 and held this post until March 31, 1971, whereupon Brigadier General Heinrich Graf von Treuberg succeeded on April 1, 1971 . There he was promoted to Brigadier General on October 22, 1970 . He was then promoted to major general on April 1, 1971 , and replaced Major General Siegfried Schulz as commander of the 10th Panzer Division in Veitshöchheim . He held this position until his replacement by Major General Jürgen Brandt on June 24, 1974.

On October 1, 1975 Reichenberger succeeded Major General Hans-Jürg von Kalckreuth as commander of the Territorial Command South in Heidelberg and remained in this position until December 22, 1976, after which Major General Hans-Otto Göricke became his successor there on January 1, 1977. He was last promoted to lieutenant general on January 1, 1977, replacing Rüdiger von Reichert again, as Deputy Inspector of the Army in the Army Command . This function was retained until his retirement on September 30, 1979. He was succeeded as Deputy Inspector of the Army on October 1, 1979, Lieutenant General Eberhard Burandt .
