Gaylen Gerber

Gaylen Gerber (born June 8, 1955 in McAllen , Texas ) is an American monochrome painter , concept and installation artist .

Gerber put in 1977 at the State University of New York at Brockport the Bachelor from. He completed his master's degree at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture and at the Art Institute of Chicago . He graduated in 1980 and has taught at the Art Institute of Chicago since 1987 .

In the early 1980s Gerber created gray, monochrome pictures with subtle shifts in the lacquered surface that invite the recipient to change his position while viewing. He calls his mostly gray works backdrops and supports , and they are often combined in installations with works by other artists such as Stephen Prina , Kay Rosen and Rémy Zaugg .

Gaylen Gerber's work is shown internationally in renowned exhibition houses. Gerber was a participant in documenta IX in Kassel in 1992 and in 2010 at GrenzGebietRuhr in Essen.
