Hans-Otto Goericke

Hans-Otto Göricke (born December 14, 1919 in Dessau , Anhalt, † November 11, 2009 in Ulm ) was a German major general .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1938, he served as a volunteer in the 33rd Infantry Regiment in Dessau. In the 2nd Panzer Division (Panzergrenadier Regiment 2) he took part in the French , Polish and Balkan campaigns as well as in the war against the Soviet Union , most recently as captain of the reserve and combat group adjutant in Normandy and in the Ardennes offensive .

After the war he was briefly a manager of the family's sawmill in Jeber-Bergfrieden near Dessau . In 1956 he became captain of the personnel department in the BMVg , in 1957/1958 the general staff training took place. 1967/1969: Staff officer at the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr , then commander of the 36th Panzer Brigade , then Chief of Staff II Corps, deputy commanding general. From 1977 to 1980 he was in command of the Territorial Command South and worked closely with the French, American and Canadian commanders in chief as well as the NATO Central Army Group, known as CENTAG, and the state governments of southern Germany in the context of overall defense .

Göricke lived with his wife in Ulm . His essay "Training and Education in the Bundeswehr" was published in Ulrich de Maizière's book "Stations of a Soldier's Life".
