The 14th Hanse Panzer Grenadier Division with its headquarters in Neubrandenburg was a division of the German Army that existed from 1990 to 2008. The division was stationed in the German coastal states of Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and subordinated to the Multinational Corps North-East in Stettin (Poland).

In addition to training for conscripts and contract and professional soldiers, the division planned and led large national and multinational associations, among other things, within the framework of UN peace missions, the NATO alliance and national defense .

Association badge and motto

The association badge of the 14th Panzer Grenadier Division "Hanse" showed the Märkischer Adler , which, like the Prussian Eagle, was black on a yellow-red-white-blue background. The colors stood for the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg , in which the units of the division were originally stationed. It corresponded to the association badge of the military area command VIII / 14. Panzergrenadier Division.

The division's motto was “Train for action, survive in action”. She referred to herself as "The Army in the North".

The division emerged in 1990 from the divisions of Military District V of the National People's Army . The 8th Motorized Rifle Division , the 9th Panzer Division and the 1st Motorized Rifle Division of the NVA were disbanded and Homeland Security Brigades 40, 41 and 42 were reorganized. In 1991 the troops were combined to form Division / Wehrbereichskommando VIII and the Marder armored personnel carrier was introduced into the division.

In 1995 the division was named Military District Command VIII / 14. Panzergrenadierdivision and the homeland security brigades were renamed to Panzer- und Panzergrenadierbrigades ( Panzergrenadierbrigade 40 , Panzergrenadierbrigade 41 , Panzerbrigade 42 ). In 1997, Panzerbrigade 42 from Potsdam was transferred to the 13th Panzer Grenadier Division. In return, the division received the Panzer Brigade 18 "Holstein" from Neumünster . The division was given its current name in 1997, with the nickname "Hanse" added in 1998. On December 1, 1998, a sponsorship was signed with the city of Neubrandenburg.

In 2001 the Panzer Grenadier Brigade 40 "Mecklenburg" was disbanded. In the course of the planned dissolution of the division, Panzergrenadierbrigade 41 was subordinated to the 13th Panzergrenadier Division in Leipzig in 2007 and further units were disbanded. Further division troops were released in 2008: These included the reconnaissance battalion 6 (to the 41st Panzer Grenadier Brigade including units subordinate to troops such as the Panzer Reconnaissance Companies 70 and 400 from Eutin), the telecommunications battalion 801 (to the 41st Panzergrenadier Brigade) and the telecommunications battalion to the 610th, final subordination to Prenzlau Multinational Corps North-East, troop service leadership then by Army Command ). The Army Music Corps 14 from Neubrandenburg, which was subordinate to May 2, 2008, changed to the Military Music Corps I for the Armed Forces Base ( Military Area Command I - Coast ). The armored brigade 18 ( Boostedt ) was officially decommissioned on June 19 of 2008.

Brigadier General Peter Goebel was the last commander of the division . The dissolution of the division was ordered at the end of 2008 after the division was decommissioned on July 4, 2008 with a major tattoo in Neubrandenburg.

In 1997/1998 the division was involved in the 4th SFOR contingent in Bosnia and Herzegovina . In 1999 the division's troops were relocated to Kosovo (2nd German deployment contingent KFOR ). In 2001 a SFOR / KFOR mission followed in the Balkans (3rd SFOR / KFOR mission contingent), and in August 2002 there was support for the helpers during the flood of the century . In 2003 and 2004 the division was partly in action in the Balkans and Afghanistan ( ISAF ). Furthermore, 14th PzGrenDiv. in Kosovo 01/06 to 05/06 (13th GECONKFOR) as well as in Afghanistan.
