The Air Force Command / 4. Division (KLK / 4th Div, short: KLK) in Regensburg was formed in 1994 by merging the divisional headquarters of the 1st Airborne Division ( Bruchsal ) and the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division (Regensburg). With the subordination of Airborne Brigade 25 , Airborne Brigade 26 and Airborne Brigade 31 , the KLK became the successor to the 1st Airborne Division. For reasons of tradition and to make it clear what position the staff had in the command organization of the army, the designation “4. Division ”in the name. On March 20, 2001, the command was dissolved and on April 1, the troops of the Special Operations Division were transferred.

The command represented an agency at division level. The KLK led the airborne brigades 26 ("Saarland") and 31 ("Oldenburg") as the superior agency as well as the telecommunications regiment 4 and from 1996 also the special forces command (KSK), which came from the airborne brigade 25 was formed. The main task for the KLK was the provision of the "National Commander in the country of deployment" and ensuring national leadership skills in operations under the Army Command. Calls

The command performed its task several times within the framework of IFOR and SFOR in the former Yugoslavia with essential parts of the staff and the subordinate troops. In addition, the command was the national commander in the fire disaster in Greece in 1995. Parts of these management tasks are now performed by the operational command .

Association badge

The association badge is the same as that of the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division . The Palatinate lion indicates that it belonged to the Wittelsbach Electorate of the Palatinate or Bavaria. The Bavarian rhombuses illustrate the bond with the Free State of Bavaria. The two diagonally crossed silver keys on a red background are also part of the Regensburg city arms. The 4th Panzer Grenadier Division was stationed in Regensburg. The keys are the symbols of St. Peter, the patron of the city and the cathedral. The colors red and silver correspond to the heraldic tinctures of various other imperial cities and are the old imperial colors. The association badge of the division equivalent command was edged with a silver cord. The association badge is identical to the coat of arms of the Bavarian district of Upper Palatinate
