assignments
The telecommunications command bundled the units of the telecommunications force at the corps level . The main task was the construction, operation and maintenance of the information technology of the corps command posts . Telecommunication technology enabled the commanding general and his staff to connect to their own corps troops , subordinate divisions , neighboring corps and higher-level command posts of the Central Army Group . The main task of the Telecommunications Battalion 220 was electronic warfare .
Overall, the size of the telecommunications command with about 2200 soldiers in the war organization corresponded to about half a brigade of the field army .
structure
Around 1989 the telecommunications command was roughly divided into:
-
Staff / Headquarters Company Telecommunications Command 2, Ulm
-
Telecommunications Battalion 210 , Dillingen
-
Telecommunications Battalion 220, Donauwörth
-
Telecommunications Battalion 230 , Dillingen
-
Telecommunications training company 1 / II, Dillingen (in peacetime to telecommunications battalion 230)
-
Fernmeldeausbildungskompanie 2 / II, Dillingen (in peace to telecommunications battalion 210)
-
Telecommunications training company 3 / II, Bruchsal
-
Telecommunications training company 4 / II, Bruchsal
-
Telecommunication training company 5 / II (EloKa), Donauwörth (in peace to telecommunications battalion 220)
-
In peacetime the Front Intelligence Company 200 and the Fernspähkompanie 200 were also subordinate. Both companies were directly subordinate to the II Corps in the event of a defense . In peacetime Telecommunication Command 2 was also subordinate to three telecommunication companies for electronic warfare, which in the event of a defense were subordinate to the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division and the 10th and 12th Panzer Divisions .
history
prehistory
From 1960 on, Corps Fernmeldekommandeur 2 was planned in Ulm, which was based in the Ulm Wilhelmsburg barracks .
Lineup
The telecommunications command 2 was set up on October 1, 1973 to take Army Structure III in the Wilhelmsburg barracks in Ulm. The staff of Corps Telecommunication Commander 2 was used for the setup.
resolution
After the end of the Cold War , Telecommunication Command 2 was decommissioned on March 31, 1994 at about the same time as the reclassification of the II Corps to the II German-American Corps. Parts were reclassified to Command Support Brigade 2 with staff also in Ulm.
Association badge
The telecommunications command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as part of the dependent corps troops . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the higher corps .
As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire telecommunications command. It was essentially a guide to the branch of service of the light that similar Barettabzeichen the Signal Corps is included, the capital letter F (is probably for " F ernmelder" or " F Unker") in the yellow color of arms of the troops, as well as a model of the atom similar to the Bohr's atomic model for the electrotechnical fundamentals of telecommunications technology.
