The telecommunications command 850 was one of the telecommunications commands of the territorial army in the army of the Bundeswehr . The headquarters of the staff was Mannheim . The telecommunications command was subordinate to the Territorial Command South .

assignments

The telecommunications command bundled the units of the telecommunications force at the level of the territorial command . The territorial command was structured similarly to the corps of the field army with their telecommunications subordinate as part of the corps troops . The Territorial Command was to by the telecommunications command in a position with its own forces, the telecommunications links directly under its troops to the subordinate military district commands to the German and Allied Corps of the Central Army Group , to neighboring territorial commands and via the telecommunications command 900 to the national command staff of the Armed Forces to hold. Since the commander of the territorial command was also the national commander in relation to CENTAG , the telecommunications command secured communication with the CENTAG command staff through the connection via Telecommunications Battalion 890. The subordinate telecommunications battalion 860 operated the telecommunications center of the territorial command . Further tasks were the acquisition and evaluation of front messages and the psychological defense . The PSV troop produced and broadcast the radio station for soldiers, Radio Andernach .

Like most units of the Territorial Army , the telecommunications command only grew to its full personnel strength of around 4,500 men in the event of a defense . This was roughly the size of a field army brigade .

history

Lineup

The telecommunications command 850 was set up no later than the capture of Army Structure IV in the 1980s.

resolution

After the end of the Cold War , Telecommunication Command 850 was decommissioned at the end of March 1994 at around the same time as the South Territorial Command was decommissioned.

Association badge

The telecommunications command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as part of the troops directly subordinate to the territorial command . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the higher-level territorial command .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire telecommunications command. Except for the symbol in the lower field, it resembled the internal association badge of the staff of the Territorial Command South. In the upper right field on a green background, it showed an obliquely left golden wavy band symbolizing the Rhine , applied two crossed swords similar to the badge on the army's peaked caps . In the upper left black field the red crowned and red tongued double - tailed golden Palatinate lion similar to the city coat of arms of Mannheim . The figure in the lower silver field stood for the telecommunications force .
