history
Lineup
After reunification , the territorial structures known from West Germany were quickly created in the former military district V of the land forces of the National People's Army (see the structure of the territorial army around 1989 ). The Defense District Command was planned to take over Army Structure V in the early 1990s as part of the Territorial Army and subordinated to the Commander in Defense Area VIII . Based on the civil administrative structure in West Germany, the defense district should roughly correspond to a (future) administrative district . When setting up, however, the layout of the new defense district was initially roughly based on the Rostock district known from the German Democratic Republic . Accordingly, the location of the staff was initially Rostock and, from 1991, the very close Bad Doberan .
Change to military area command I
On October 1, 1997, Military District Command VIII was dissolved. The leadership of the Military Regional Command in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , including the leadership of the Military Regional Command 88, was the Military District Command I transferred.
resolution
In 2001 the territorial army was disbanded. The military area commands and defense district commands were subordinated to the newly established armed forces base . The defense areas and defense districts were fundamentally reorganized and their number reduced. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Defense District Command 88 was discontinued as early as March 31, 1998. The eastern part of the previous Defense District 88 was incorporated into Defense District 87 . The western part fell to Defense District Command 86 .
Association badge
The Defense District Command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as a predominantly non-active unit . The few active soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the superior military area command .
As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire defense district command. The internal association badge was similar to the Rostock coat of arms as an indication of the stationing area . Most of it was in the Rostock colors, which stood for the Rostock princes and the Hanseatic flag . It also showed as a figure like the Rostock coat of arms on a blue background the striding Rostock griffin . The stylized iron cross divided the shield . It is the national emblem of the Bundeswehr.
