The Army Aviation Command bundled the helicopters of the Army Aviation Force at the corps level . The other units subordinate to the corps had no major units of the Army Aviation Troops around 1989 . Only the division troops of each subordinate division had a squadron with Alouette II liaison helicopters in Army Structure IV . To 1989, the disposal commander of Heeresflieger commands using helicopter compound Bo-105M and Alouette II, the transport helicopter LTH UH-1D and MTH CH-53G and anti-tank helicopters Bo-105P . The command supported the corps' divisions and brigades with logistics and combined arms combat on the battlefield . There they were mainly used for reconnaissance and anti-tank purposes. The commander of the corps was able to in the transport helicopters also use defense case as a reserve imputed paratroopers of the airborne brigades to move quickly to focus . Overall, the size of the Army Aviation Command with around 5200 members roughly corresponded to the strength of one of the brigades of the field army .
structure
Around 1989 the Army Aviation Command was roughly divided into:
-
Staff / Staff Squadron Heeresfliegerkommando 3, Mendig ( Mendig Air Base )
- Heeresfliegerstaffel 300 (GerEinh), Mendig
- Army Aviation Training Squadron 8 / III, Niederstetten ( Niederstetten Army Airfield )
- Heeresflugplatzkommandantur 301, Mendig (in the event of a defense to the Security and Supply Regiment BMVg )
- Heeresflugplatzkommandantur 302, Fritzlar ( Heeresflugplatz Fritzlar )
- Army Airfield Command 303, Niederstetten
- Army Aviation Regiment 30 , Niederstetten
- Army Aviation Regiment 35, Mendig
- Army Aviation Regiment 36 , Fritzlar
The tele-spying company was only subject to 300 during peacetime .
history
The Army Aviation Command 3 was set up in 1971 to take over Army Structure III in the Rhine barracks in Koblenz . Corps Army Aviation Commander 3 , who was based in Koblenz from 1959 until the reclassification in 1971, was used to set up the staff . The staff of Army Aviation Command 3 moved to the Gunther Plüschow barracks at Mendig airfield in 1971 .
The Army Aviation Command was therefore at the end of March 1994 at about the same time as the III. Corps decommissioned. Army Aviation Brigade 3 was set up from parts in April 1994 .
Association badge
The Army Aviation Command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as part of the dependent corps troops . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the higher corps .
As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff unit " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire Army Aviation Command . It showed an eagle with a lightning bolt and the Mainz wheel in its claws . Parts of an eagle are also depicted in the beret badge of the Army Aviation Troops. The Mainz wheel is depicted similarly in the coat of arms of Rhineland-Palatinate and represents the stationing area of the Army Aviation Command. The Roman three below stands for belonging to III. Corps. The internal association badge was similarly continued as the association badge of the "successor association" Heeresfliegerbrigade 3 .
