The supply command 850 was one of the supply commands of the territorial army in the army of the Bundeswehr . The headquarters were in Limburg an der Lahn . The supply command was subordinate to the Territorial Command South .

assignments

The supply command bundled the units of the repair and supply troops at the level of the territorial command . While in the field army at the level of the corps the repair and the supply were organized in separate units (three repair and supply commands each ), it was decided in the territorial army at the level of the territorial command to concentrate the forces in the supply commands. Since the Territorial Command South, in contrast to the other Territorial Commandos, covered the operational area of two corps, the supply command 860 was also planned as a "sister association".

One order was the testing , maintenance and repair of the weapon systems , vehicles and electronic devices such as telecommunications technology for the territorial command. The subordinate defense areas led their own units of the repair force; Depending on the situation , the supply command supported these subordinate units and units of the field army in the southern German military areas. The supply command carried out repairs at all levels of material maintenance. For work at higher material conservation levels, the supply command had several army repair works and depot repair groups and coordinated the award of contracts to private companies. The South German repair commandos and other units of the repair troops in the field army transferred orders of higher material maintenance levels to the supply command.

Another task was the logistics in the operations room of the Territorial Command. The supply command was responsible for the operation of the rear (main) depots of the army. The supply command secured the supplies for the troops of the territorial command and carried (military) material from the rear areas to (advanced) depots or transshipment points of the field army, where further distribution by the supply force of the field army, at the level of the corps by the southern German supply command , took place. The secondary task of the supply command was the operation of field post facilities . For the operation of the medical depots , close cooperation with the southern German medical commandos , which in turn had considerable transport capacities, was necessary. To support the deployment and to provide logistical support for the allied armed forces , the supply command 850 was able to support the southern German support commandos depending on the situation . For the handling of Operation- and fuels the supply command was on the pipeline pioneers of the pioneer 850 commands instructed in the region of the supply commands several storage tanks operated.

In peacetime around 1989 the supply command, like almost all units of the territorial army, consisted of only a few active soldiers. In the case of defense , the supply command could after mobilization by the convening of reservists and service commitment of civilian employees to around 5,000 men grow up . Overall, the size of the supply command after the mobilization corresponded to the size of one of the brigades of the field army.

structure

Around 1989 the supply command was roughly divided into:

Note: The device depots were located in Darmstadt , Gemmerich , Homburg , Kappel , Königswinter , Limburg an der Lahn , Lorch (see underground plant Lorch-Wispertal ), Obertshausen , Worms . Ammunition depots were located in Eft , Engelskirchen , Rheinbach , Rheinböllen (see ammunition depot Rheinböllen ), Ulmen . Sanitary depots were set up in Euskirchen and Lorch (see Sanitätshauptdepot Lorch-Rheingau ).

history

The supply command was set up in Limburg in 1970 to take over Army Structure III . The supply command reported operational readiness on October 1, 1970.

After the end of the Cold War , Supply Command 850 was decommissioned in March 1992 at around the same time as the South Territorial Command was dissolved.

Association badge

The supply command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as part of the dependent units, which were directly subordinate to the territorial command, analogous to corps troops . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the higher-level territorial command.

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire supply command. Similar to the beret badge of the supply troops, it showed a wing stick ( caduceus ). Furthermore, similar to the repairer in the beret badge, crossed cannon barrels and a gear wheel as an indication of the weapon systems to be repaired . The grenade was taken from the association badge of the Depot Organization Command , which until 1970 led the depots now subordinate to the supply command. Similar to the Limburg city arms , it showed a castle and the arms of the Lords of Isenburg-Limburg in the right field . Blue was the weapon color of the armies.
