In addition, the division troops of each subordinate division in Army Structure IV each had an anti-aircraft regiment . However, around 1989, in addition to the Fliegerfaust 1, these “only” had the Gepard anti-aircraft gun tank , whose range and combat power lagged behind the Roland anti-aircraft missile tank.

Overall, the size of the anti-aircraft command with around 2100 members corresponded to around 50% of the strength of one of the brigades of the field army .

history

The Air Defense Command 3 was set up in 1972 to take over Army Structure IV in the Fritsch barracks in Koblenz . On placement was Corps air defense commander 3 used, the edited since 1960 by Koblenz from the concerns of the air defense corps.

The air defense command 3 was after the end of the Cold War in 1993 about the same time as the decommissioning of the III. Corps disbanded.

Association badge

As part of the dependent corps troops, the air defense command did not have its own association badge due to its planning . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the higher corps .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff battery " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire air defense command. The main shield showed the Koblenz city coat of arms with the Trier cross and the crown of Mary as a reference to the stationing area . As an indication of the type of service, the diamond-shaped shield showed the flak sky , the weapon color of the Army anti-aircraft troops , as well as an anti-aircraft missile and two tubes of an anti-aircraft gun similar to the beret badge of the Army anti-aircraft troops . The applied shield was similarly continued as the internal association badge of the staff and the staff battery of the Air Defense Brigade 100 .
