The defense district command 44 was a defense area command of the Armed Forces with the seat of the bar in Kassel . The main task of the command was the territorial defense in its defense district.

history

Lineup

The Defense District Command was planned to take over Army Structure II in the 1960s as part of the Territorial Army and subordinated to the Commander in Defense Area IV . Based on the civil administrative structure , the defense district roughly corresponded to the administrative district of Kassel . The location of the Kassel staff was accordingly .

resolution

In 2001 the territorial army was disbanded. The military area commands and defense district commands were subordinated to the newly established armed forces base . The defense areas and defense districts were fundamentally reorganized and their number was reduced. In Hesse, the defense district commands 43 and 44 were decommissioned and their command areas, which corresponded roughly to the administrative districts of Darmstadt and Kassel, were incorporated into the defense district command 47 (previously roughly equivalent to the administrative district of Gießen ), which thus expanded its command area to the entire state of Hessen .

structure

Like most units of the Territorial Army, the Defense District Command consisted of only a few active soldiers. Only in the case of defense , the defense district command could by the convening of reserve and the mobilization stored and civilian material to a troop strength increase , which around 1989 as a (small) brigade or a regiment of the Army corresponded. For the longest time of its existence, the Defense District Command was subdivided into subordinate Defense District Commands, derived from the civil administrative structure .

Association badge

The Defense District Command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as a predominantly non-active unit . The few active soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the superior military area command .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire defense district command. Essentially, as a reference to the stationing area, it showed the cloverleaf figures similar to those in the Kassler city arms and two crossed swords as a symbol for the army . The crossed swords, for example, in addition to the black, red and gold rosette on the shield and mountain caps attached the Army.
