St. Johns (often also spelled St. John's ) is a place on the island of Saba , one of the special communities of the Netherlands in the Caribbean . With 186 inhabitants (as of 2001) St. Johns is the smallest of the four inhabited villages on the island.

St. John's is located on the south side of Saba in the immediate vicinity of the island's capital, The Bottom . Visitors arriving from the island's airport and heading to The Bottom must cross St. John's on Saba's only paved road, aptly named "The Road". On a clear day it is possible to see the neighboring islands of Sint Eustatius , St. Kitts , Nevis and, in very good weather conditions, Montserrat . In earlier times, the residents of the place took advantage of the good view of the sea to see incoming ships on their way to the island port of Fort Bay in good time . The residents of St. John's then signaled to The Bottom to alert the residents of the main town to the new arrivals in good time.

education

Despite the small size of the town of St. Johns is home to both public schools on the island, the Primary School Sacred Heart Primary School and secondary Saba Comprehensive School .
