The defense district command 42 was a defense area command of the Armed Forces with the seat of the bar in Trier . The main task of the command was the territorial defense in its defense district.

history

Lineup

The defense district command was to assume the army structure II in the 1960s as part of the Territorial Army deallocated and the commander in Military District IV assumed. Based on the civil administrative structure , the defense district roughly corresponded to the Trier administrative district . The location of the Trier staff was accordingly .

Change to the armed forces base

In 2001 the territorial army was disbanded. The military area commands and defense district commands were subordinated to the newly established armed forces base . The defense areas and defense districts were fundamentally reorganized and their number reduced. The Defense District Command changed to the "new" Defense District Command II . At the same time, Defense District Command 41 was decommissioned and its command area, which roughly corresponded to the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative district of Koblenz , which was dissolved in 1999, was incorporated into Defense District 42. The subordinate defense district commands were dissolved and some of its tasks were transferred to the newly established district liaison commands.

Like most units of the Territorial Army, the Defense District Command consisted of only a few active soldiers. Association badge

Internal association badge of the staff / staff company

The Defense District Command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as a predominantly non-active unit . The few active soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the superior military area command .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire defense district command. It was essentially a reference to the deployment of space as a figure stylized Porta Nigra , the stylized Mosel and the St. Peter similar in Trier's coat of arms .
