A liaison command (VbKdo) is a unit of the Bundeswehr that is responsible for maintaining connections with other military or civil institutions.

A connection command can be formed for a short period of time or it can be a permanent establishment. The number of staff is also different. The liaison command may only consist of one soldier, usually a staff officer , the so-called liaison officer . Often, however, a strength is chosen that allows shift work.

In the purely military environment, for example, there is a liaison command between two divisions fighting side by side and a German liaison command in the USA ( command post ) to the armed forces there.

District and district liaison command

As sub-units of the regional commandos, 31 district (BVK) and 404 district liaison commands (KVK) are set up in accordance with the federal structures.

The liaison commands set up in the administrative districts, districts and urban districts are manned exclusively by local reservists . The head of the BVK / KVK and his deputy perform their service in a reserve military service relationship in accordance with Section 2 of the Reservists Act .

Each liaison command comprises 12 posts, so that a total of around 5,300 reservists, including 3,500 officers , perform the tasks in the commandos. Two of the 12 posts are occupied by medical soldiers who are integrated into the BVK / KVK, but are assigned to the medical services of the Bundeswehr and are trained there. These are the Commissioned Medical Staff Officer for Civil-Military Cooperation in Health Care (SanStOffzSenMgr) with the rank of Oberstarztes d. R. / Fleet doctor d. R. (BVK) or field doctor / flotilla doctor (KVK), or pharmacists and veterinarians in the appropriate rank and a medical sergeant (SanFw Ass FüMgmt GesVers) in the rank of Oberstabsfeldwebel (BVK) and sergeant to staff sergeant (KVK).

In the event of a major damage or disaster, the liaison commands advise the civilian disaster control teams on the possibilities and limits of support from the Bundeswehr. They transfer the civilian damage situations into a military situation report and provide a picture of the situation for the armed forces deployed. They record civil requests for support and report them to the regional command.

You are responsible for participating in the meetings of the disaster control team on the current situation and operational follow-up planning, intentions and priorities of hazard prevention. The liaison commands report the situation and the operational follow-up plans, intentions and priorities of the leading civilian disaster control team to the state command. Any necessary relocations of deployed armed forces and the need for additional forces are also reported. The BVKs and KVKs also maintain the connection to the deployed units .

The situation center of the state command is informed about the situation of the armed forces by the liaison commandos. The members of the liaison command support organizational measures for accommodating and catering for armed forces brought in.
