The colonel is one of the ranks of the Bundeswehr . Colonel doctors are medical officers with a license to practice as a doctor or dentist . The rank of senior physician is determined by the Federal President with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers on the basis of the Soldiers Act .

Positions

Some senior surgeons are still practicing as specialists in a Bundeswehr hospital or in a specialist medical center . Specialists in armed forces hospitals usually head sub-areas as senior physicians or as chief physician departments or one of the clinics of a German armed forces hospital . Very experienced senior medical officers sometimes (but rarely) also run a Bundeswehr hospital. Senior surgeons are often also heads of one of the dislocated specialist medical centers. The chief aeronautical surgeon of the Army and the Air Force are usually aeronautical surgeons with the rank of senior physician. Senior surgeons are also commanders of the hospital or medical regiments and commanders of the rapid emergency forces medical service . They also conduct usually the location of Koblenz of the Central Institute of the Sanitary Service of the Armed Forces and various other institutions (eg. B. Center for Sports Medicine of the Armed Forces , the Institute of Microbiology of the Bundeswehr or the Institute of Preventive Medicine of the Armed Forces ). In the army, senior medical officers as chief medical officers ( division physicians ) advise division commanders on specialist medical issues. Like all staff officers , senior surgeons also serve in staff departments and units of the authorities, offices, command authorities of all military organizational areas (primarily in the central medical service ) and in the ministry , where they deal with medical issues. Often they are department heads or unit heads there . The highest ranking chief dentist in dentistry is the stage manager dentistry of the Bundeswehr . The general physician of the armed forces base and the general physician of the army with the rank of chief physician are the highest-ranking physicians in their military organizational area . In particular, the teaching facilities of the medical service of the Bundeswehr, as well as almost all other teaching facilities of the Bundeswehr, teach senior surgeons as lecturers .

appointment

The decisive legal basis for the appointment as a senior physician is the Soldier Career Ordinance (SLV) and, in addition, the Central Service Regulations (ZDv) 20/7. To rank Colonel doctor can soldier on time , professional soldiers and ordered reservists are appointed. Prerequisite is the membership of one of the runways for medical officers and the approval as a doctor or dentist . The rank can be achieved at the earliest ten years after appointment as medical officer. A setting with the rank Colonel doctor is with one of the use possible also corresponding qualification.

The rank badge for senior wardens is essentially the same as for colonels . Additional career badges in the form of a staff of Aesculapia serve to distinguish between senior officers . In the career badge for doctors, the snake winds in a double twist , for dentists in a single twist around the staff.

Others

With regard to the power of command within the meaning of the Superiors Ordinance and the Military Disciplinary Code , with regard to salary and with regard to equivalent, subordinate and superordinate ranks within the meaning of ZDv 14/5, senior officers are on the same level as the colonel . When it comes to medical issues, in particular, medical officers are often the superiors of higher-ranking soldiers. In the after Soldatenlaufbahnverordnung and ZDv 07.20 regular continuous transport order is the previous Doctor Colonel rank of Oberfeldarzt and the subsequent rank of Surgeon-General . Only Army and Air Force uniform wearers hold the rank of senior physician ; the corresponding rank for naval uniform wearers is the fleet doctor . In practice, the highest grade that dentists can achieve will in future be the colonel or fleet doctor.

He is the "highest dentist" in the Bundeswehr.
