In the Federal Republic of Germany, the Military Disciplinary Code (WDO) regulates the appreciation of special achievements and the punishment of offenses committed by soldiers in the Bundeswehr . " Formal recognitions " are given for special achievements, and misconduct can be subject to disciplinary measures.

Simple disciplinary measures may be imposed by the disciplinary superiors, judicial measures only by military service courts .
