The senior veterinarian is one of the ranks of the Bundeswehr . Senior veterinarians are medical officers with a license to practice as a veterinarian . The rank is determined by the Federal President with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers on the basis of the Soldiers Act .

Positions

Senior veterinarians hold prominent top service positions in the medical services of the Bundeswehr , which are only achieved by very few veterinarians. Senior veterinarians can be department heads or department heads of one of the monitoring bodies for public law tasks (in particular the Monitoring Center East with a focus on veterinary matters), the Institute for Microbiology of the Bundeswehr or one of the central institutes of the medical service (in particular the Kiel location with a focus on veterinary matters). The highest specialist in veterinary affairs is the stage manager veterinary medicine of the Bundeswehr with the rank of senior veterinarian.

appointment

For appointment as a senior veterinarian or hiring with this rank, the same legal principles and requirements apply , for example with regard to minimum length of service , career affiliation and employment relationship as for senior officers . Instead of a license to practice as a doctor or dentist 's license to practice as a veterinarian requirement. If you are employed as a senior veterinarian, instead of being licensed as a regional or specialist doctor, qualifications as a specialist veterinarian or two years of work as an official veterinarian are required.

Rank badge

The rank badge for senior veterinarians essentially corresponds to that for senior surgeons . A career badge in the form of a modified Aesculapian staff is used to distinguish between the senior veterinarians . The snake writhes in the raceway badge for veterinarians in double winding (by a rod, not shown).

The rank was newly created with the sixth order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of soldiers from May 5, 1966.

Others

With regard to the power of command in terms of troop service and technical matters within the meaning of the Superiors Ordinance and the Military Disciplinary Code , with regard to equivalent, subordinate and superordinate ranks within the meaning of ZDv 14/5 and with regard to salary , senior veterinarians are on an equal footing with senior physicians . In the order of promotion to be regularly followed according to the Soldiers' Career Ordinance and ZDv 20/7, the previous rank is the senior field veterinarian . For medical officers specializing in veterinary medicine, the senior veterinarian is the highest grade that can be achieved; promotion to a higher rank is not provided. Ranks for veterinarians only carry army uniforms.
