Cornelius Sipayung

Kornelius Sipayung OFMCap (born August 26, 1970 in Bandar Hinalang ( Kabanjahe City ), Sumatra Utara , Indonesia ) is an Indonesian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Medan .

Life

After attending the Small Seminary of Christ Sacerdos in Pematang Siantar , Kornelius Sipayung began studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the St. John University there . He then joined the Capuchin order and made perpetual profession on August 22, 1998 . Sipayung received on 11 December 1999, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 1999 to 2002 Kornelius Sipayung was pastor in Kabanjahe before he was sent to Rome for further studies . In 2005 he obtained a degree in dogmatics from the Pontifical Gregorian University . From 2005 to 2015 Sipayung was a trainer for the seminarians of the Capuchins in Pematang Siantar and lecturer at the St. John University . From 2012 he was also Guardian of the Capuchin branch in Pematang Siantar and Vice-Provincial of the Medan Order . In 2015, Kornelius Sipayung became provincial .

On December 8, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Medan. The Apostolic Nuncio in Indonesia, Archbishop Piero Pioppo , donated him episcopal ordination on February 2, 2019 . Co- consecrators were the retired Archbishop of Medan , Anicetus Bongsu Antonius Sinaga OFMCap, and the Bishop of Padang , Martinus Dogma Situmorang OFMCap.
