The air defense command 1 was one of the air defense commands of the army of the Bundeswehr . The headquarters were in Münster . The command was part of the corps troops of the I. Corps .

assignments

The anti-aircraft command pooled the forces of the Army anti-aircraft troops at the corps level . The main weapon systems of the subordinate regiment around 1989 were the anti-aircraft missile tank Roland and the Fliegerfaust 1 . The non-active and only in the case of defense mobile to be made , however subordinate air defense battalions possessed around 1989 "only" about 40 mm anti-aircraft guns L / 70 . In the defense case should contain important facilities of the corps leadership and the Corps troops , so for example, command posts , airfields and firing positions of the corps artillery , military units throughout the combat sector of the corps protected from enemy aircraft are. Therefore, the air defense command should not be used closed, but could depending on position widely deployed and in ad hoc managed assembled air defense combat units.

In addition, the division troops of each subordinate division in Army Structure IV each had an anti-aircraft regiment . However, around 1989, in addition to the Fliegerfaust 1, these “only” had the Gepard anti-aircraft gun tank , whose range and combat power lagged behind the Roland anti-aircraft missile tank.

Overall, the size of the anti-aircraft command with about 2200 members corresponded to about 50% of the strength of one of the brigades of the field army .

structure

Around 1989 the air defense command was roughly divided into:

history

The air defense command 1 was set up in 1980 to take over Army Structure IV in Münster . Corps anti-aircraft defense commander 1 was called in to set up the staff ; he was planned at the Rheine-Bentlage Army Airfield in 1961 and moved to Münster in 1962.

The air defense command was decommissioned after the end of the Cold War in 1993 at about the same time as the 1st Corps was reclassified to the 1st German-Dutch Corps .

Association badge

As part of the dependent corps troops, the air defense command did not have its own association badge due to its planning . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the higher corps .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff battery " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire air defense command. It showed the gable of the old Munster town hall , the federal eagle , the " Fla-Sky " in the weapon color of the army anti- aircraft troops , stylized combat aircraft and a stylized representation of the troops' electronic reconnaissance systems .
