The Defense District Command 63 was a defense district command of the Bundeswehr with the headquarters of the staff most recently in Marktbergel - Munasiedlung . The main task of the command was the territorial defense in its defense district.

history

Lineup

The Defense District Command was planned to take over Army Structure II in the 1960s as part of the Territorial Army and subordinated to the Commander in Defense Area VI . Based on the civil administrative structure , the defense district roughly corresponded to the (government) district of Middle Franconia . The location of the Ansbach staff was accordingly .

Relocation to Marktbergel

In 1998 the staff moved to the Frankenkaserne in Marktbergel .

Change to the armed forces base

In 2001 the territorial army was disbanded. The military area commands and defense district commands were subordinated to the newly established armed forces base . The defense areas and defense districts were fundamentally reorganized and their number reduced. The Defense District Command switched to the “new” Defense District Command IV “Southern Germany” . At the same time, Defense District Command 61 was decommissioned and its command area, which roughly corresponded to the (government) district of Swabia , was incorporated into Defense District 63. The subordinate defense district commands were dissolved and some of its tasks were transferred to the newly established district liaison commands.

resolution

The Defense District Command was decommissioned in 2007. Some of his assignments were transferred to the newly established Bavarian State Command and subordinate district liaison commands.

structure

Like most units of the Territorial Army, the Defense District Command consisted of only a few active soldiers. Only in the case of defense , the defense district command could by the convening of reserve and the mobilization stored and civilian material to a troop strength increase , which is about a brigade of the Army corresponded. The longest time of its existence, the defense district command subdivided derived from the civilian administrative divisions roughly in defense circuit commands . The home security companies subordinate to the defense district command and the home security regiment 76 "Franconia", which is directly subordinate to the defense district command , formed the core of the infantry -style home security force around 1989 .

Association badge

Version of the internal association badge of the staff / staff company (from around 2001)

The Defense District Command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as a predominantly non-active unit . The few active soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the superior military area command .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire defense district command. In addition to an arm with sword there was a reference to the deployment of space first in the field on the top right as a small Lay- sign the district of Middle Franconia crest with the Hohenzollern coat of arms , the Franconian rake and the Nuremberg imperial eagle . It resembled the coat of arms of the district of Ansbach . In the left field it showed the Iron Cross as the national emblem of the Bundeswehr. After incorporation of the Swabian Defense District Command 61 , the internal association badge was redesigned around 2001. It now took over the left field of the internal association badge of the staff of the Defense District Command 61 with the clover leaf cross . The cross was found similarly in the coat of arms of Merching , as well as in the coats of arms of the Regensburg districts of Haunstetten and Inningen . It is probably taken from the coat of arms of the imperial abbey of St. Ulrich and Afra in Augsburg, so it was an indication of the original location of the staff of the Defense District Command 61.
