The telecommunication command 600 was one of the telecommunication commands of the territorial army in the army of the German armed forces . The seat of the staff was Kiel . The telecommunications command was subordinate to the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command.

assignments

The telecommunications command bundled the units of the telecommunications force at the level of the territorial command . The territorial command was structured similarly to the corps of the field army with their telecommunications subordinate as part of the corps troops . Thanks to the telecommunications command, the territorial command was able to use its own forces to establish telecommunications connections to its own troops, to the German and Allied units of the field army operating in the area of the territorial command (in particular LANDJUT ) (partly via the liaison commands of the subordinate defense district and defense district commands ) civil agencies , within the framework of civil-military cooperation on telecommunications services of other organizations, to neighboring territorial commands and, via telecommunications command 900, to the national command staff of the Bundeswehr . Since the commander in the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command was also the German authorized representative in the area of AFNORTH , Telecommunications Command 600 also ensured the connection to the command posts of the Allied Forces Northern Europe . The subordinate telecommunications battalion was able to set up, operate and maintain a telecommunications center. Since the Territorial Command was in charge of Defense Area I at the same time , the Telecommunications Command planned 600 units for the operation of the basic telecommunications network of the Bundeswehr, which were subordinate to the Defense Area Commands in the two other Territorial Commands . The telecommunications command the 600 imputed telecommunications-leader led the Grundnetzschalt- and switching centers of the Bundeswehr. In addition, numerous, closely came dislocated telecommunications service groups that many site telecommunications equipment or fixed telecommunications centers of the Bundeswehr operated. This created the close-knit and redundantly branched basic network of the Bundeswehr, which used both cable and radio connections (including directional radio ) and was supplemented by Deutsche Bundespost systems. For the mobile telecommunication units of the field army, the telecommunication facilities of the territorial army served as transition points to the basic network of the Bundeswehr in order to enable far-reaching telecommunication connections.

The basic network and switching centers, as well as some of the other telecommunications equipment mentioned, were usually bunkered, stationary systems. In addition to the soldiers of the territorial army, soldiers from the air force and the navy , as well as civilian employees and officials from the Federal Post Office, also served there . Like most units of the Territorial Army , the telecommunications command only grew to its full strength in the event of a defense .

structure

Around 1989 the telecommunications command was roughly divided into:

history

Lineup

The telecommunications command 600 was set up at the latest to take over Army Structure IV in the 1980s.

resolution

After the end of the Cold War , Telecommunication Command 600 was decommissioned around 1994 at around the same time as the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command was decommissioned.

Association badge

The telecommunications command did not have its own association badge due to its planning as part of the troops directly subordinate to the territorial command . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the higher-level territorial command .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire telecommunications command. As a reference to the stationing area, it showed the nettle leaf with boat as in the Kiel coat of arms and the castle as in the coat of arms of Hamburg . The Viking ship is taken from the AFNORTH coat of arms or the internal association badge of the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command and symbolizes the affiliation to this large association as well as the cooperation with the Danish armed forces . The lightning bolts , which are similarly contained in the beret badge of the telecommunications troops, are an indication of the type of service . They form the legs of a stylized crustacean similar to a lobster that occurs near Heligoland .
