Wolfgang Korte (born October 25, 1949 in Osnabrück ) is a lieutenant general out of service in the army of the Bundeswehr and was most recently in command of the NATO Joint Warfare Center in Stavanger, Norway .

Military career

Training and first uses

After graduating from high school Carolinum in Osnabrück, Korte joined the German Armed Forces as a basic military service in July 1969. The basic training and after further commitment to the temporary soldier followed the officer training with the tank troops . In April 1972, after completing his officer training, Korte was promoted to lieutenant with simultaneous appointment as a professional soldier .

This was followed by assignments as platoon leader of an armored train and intelligence officer ( S2 ) in the battalion staff of the Panzerlehrbataillon 94 / Munster . This was followed by the employment as a company commander of the 2nd company in the same battalion until April 1981 .

Staff and commander assignments

In 1982 and 1983, Korte completed general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . He then served as a logistics staff officer (G4) and operations staff officer (G3) with Panzerbrigade 12 in Amberg / Upper Palatinate . From 1987 to 1988 Korte completed the American General Staff Training at Fort Leavenworth, Kansa, USA at the US Command and General Staff College . Back in Germany, he took command of the 123rd Panzer Battalion in Kümmersbruck near Amberg from 1988 to 1990 .

From 1990 to 1992 Korte served in the Federal Ministry of Defense, Bonn as a consultant for personnel issues. This was followed from 1992 to 1994 as Chief of Staff of the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division in Oldenburg . In 1994 he returned to Bonn and took over the management of Section P III 4 in the Federal Ministry of Defense until 1996. In this position, Korte u. a. responsible for personnel planning for Army General Staff officers. He then commanded Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Munster until July 16, 1999 . During this employment, the appointment as brigadier general took place .

Service in the rank of general

Korte was transferred to the Army Command in Koblenz and served there as Chief of Staff from September 1999. In this role he and the staff developed the new army training concept for missions abroad . In addition, he was responsible for developing the structures of the army's new intervention forces as well as their training and deployment planning. In January 2001, Korte took over command of the 14th Panzer Grenadier Division in Neubrandenburg with the appointment of Major General and led it until September 1, 2002. This command was followed from September 2002 to February 2003 by a first foreign assignment as part of the KFOR (Kosovo Force) in Pristina / Kosovo. Korte was there as deputy commander for operations under the Italian Lieutenant General Fabio Mini .

In October 2003 Korte returned to the Army Command in Koblenz and became its deputy commander . During this use, another foreign assignment took place, this time in Afghanistan . He served there from February to August 2004 as deputy commander of the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force, V. Rotation) under the Canadian General Rick Hillier . On January 13, 2005, Korte handed over the official business of the Army Command to his successor, Christian Trull, and on March 1, 2005 he became head of the Army Office in Cologne , which he led until November 15, 2006. On July 13, 2007 he took over the official business as commander of the Joint Warfare Center in Stavanger , Norway , at the same time he was appointed lieutenant general. Effective August 1, 2011, Korte retired.

He is married and has two daughters.
