The Inspector of the Navy ( InspM ) is the supreme military service superior of the Navy branch of the German Armed Forces . He reports to the Inspector General of the German Armed Forces . His office is the Naval Command in Rostock . The subordinate departments of the Navy are managed by the heads of the responsible specialist departments in the Navy Command and do not report directly to the Inspector.

task and function

The inspector holds the rank of vice admiral and has a deputy of the same rank. He is a member of the Military Command Council chaired by the Inspector General. He also represents the Navy externally, among other things within the Chiefs of European Navies .

story

Since 2012, the Inspector of the Navy has been based at the Naval Command in Rostock.

From 1956 to 2012, the inspector of the navy was also head of department in the Federal Ministry of Defence ; the department reporting to him was the Naval High Command . In his responsibility for the operational readiness of the Navy in terms of personnel and material, he reported directly to the Federal Minister of Defence .

In the navy, the inspector reported to the higher command authorities, whose numbers and designations changed over time.

From 1974 to 2001 there were three higher command authorities, the Fleet Command , the Naval Office and the Naval Support Command, but since the Naval Support Command was decommissioned in 2001 there have only been two. Both were disbanded as part of the realignment of the Navy.
