The psyced is the implementation of PSYC -Messaging technology. PSYCED not only supports peer-to-peer communication (P2P), but also enables multicast via TCP and UDP connections. The software is available under the GPL license.
PSYCED also takes on the extended tasks of a PSYC client, whereby access applications such as Telnet , Java applets, IRC clients and XMPP clients gain access to the PSYC network. Support of TLS encryption is available. The server software is created in the LPC programming language .
PSYCED masters XMPP , which means that it can communicate with all XMPP users, regardless of the type of access the local user uses. PSYCED also offers the option of setting up gateways to other messaging systems (e.g. IRC ). In addition HTTP web, SMTP mail, RSS and native real-time news feeds. An experimental NNTP news interface is also available.
A special feature is the programmability of the chat rooms (groups, channels, etc.), which, unlike IRC, allows you to build a desired behavior directly into the room, right up to distributed multi-user applications.

history
The software has been around since 1997 and has been used by Stern , T-Online , Gruner + Jahr , Magix , MTV Europe and BrasNET, at times with over a million daily users (IRC Userbase). PSYCED works as a bridge between your own PSYC protocol and various other chat / messenger networks. It is mainly used in Europe for IRC, XMPP and web chat services. During the 2000s PSYCED was occasionally used for high-load chats by ARD , ZDF , Audi , Adolf-Grimme-Preis , Bambi , Echo , Miss Germany Awards , MTV Europe Music Awards , Eurovision Song Contest and others.
In 2007 the project changed its name from psycMUVE to PSYCED. The software is still being developed and expanded in various areas (as of 2009).
