Hans Lüssow (born February 10, 1942 in Greifswald ) is a Vice Admiral a. D. of the German Navy and was inspector of the Navy from 1998 to 2003 . Hans Lüssow grew up in Elmshorn , where he graduated from high school in 1962.

Military career

Promotions

Lüssow joined the German Navy on April 1, 1962 as an officer candidate for Crew IV / 62 . Promoted to lieutenant in the sea in 1965 , like his father he chose to serve on submarines. Between 1966 and 1975, Hans Lüssow was a watch officer , technical officer and commander on various submarines, and in the meantime he was also a training officer on the training ship Germany . The submarines he led were U 4 (1971), U 10 (1972) and U 2 (1973–1975). From 1975 to 1977 he took part in the admiralty training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg .

From 1977 to 1978 Lüssow was an S3 staff officer and deputy commander of the 3rd submarine squadron and was then transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense , naval command staff , as an assistant officer. 1981–1982 Lüssow was the commander of the 3rd submarine squadron and then A3 staff officer and deputy commander of the submarine flotilla until 1984. From 1984 to 1986 he was a division manager at the Inner Guidance Center in Koblenz . This was followed by a position as head of the operational fundamentals division in the naval command staff in Bonn .

From 1988 to 1991 Hans Lüssow was commander of the submarine flotilla and then head of department for organization in the naval command staff. In 1993, Lüssow moved to the fleet command as deputy commander . From 1995 to 1997 he served at Allied Forces Northwestern Europe headquarters as Assistant Chief of Staff Operations and Logistics. In 1997 he became head of the Naval Office and managed its relocation from Wilhelmshaven to Rostock .

From October 1, 1998 to February 28, 2003, Hans Lüssow was inspector of the German Navy. His successor was Vice Admiral Lutz Feldt . Lüssow has lived near Rostock since his retirement.

Hans Lüssow is the son of Oberleutnant zur See Gustav Lüssow and his wife Hildegard, geb. Bad taste. Gustav Lüssow fell in command of the U 571 submarine in January 1944 in the North Atlantic. Another son of the couple, Klaus Lüssow (* 1944), was a submarine commander ( U 26 ).
