Wolfgang E. Nolting

Wolfgang Edgar Nolting (born April 6, 1948 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a Vice Admiral a. D. of the German Navy . From 2006 to 2010 he was Inspector of the Navy . Since 2012 he has been chairman of the Navy Officers Association .

Life

Training and first uses

Promotions

After graduating from high school in 1966, he joined the German Navy as an officer candidate for Crew X / 66 and was trained as a naval officer until 1970 and as a combat swimmer in Eckernförde until 1971 . He then served as an officer on watch on the coastal minesweeper Wetzlar in the 6th minesweeper squadron in Wilhelmshaven.

From 1973 to 1974 he was employed as platoon leader and deputy company commander of the combat swimmer company . Then in 1974 he took over command of the Wolfsburg coast minesweeper of the 6th Minesweeper Squadron. In 1978 he was trained as an operations officer , followed by his employment as a ship operations officer for the Lübeck frigate in the 2nd escort squadron in Wilhelmshaven.

Staff officer

From 1980 to 1982 he completed the 22nd admiral staff officer course at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . After the leadership academy, Nolting was deployed as S3 and deputy squadron commander of the 4th mine sweeping squadron in Wilhelmshaven. In 1984 he was transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn , where he served as a consultant for operational principles in the naval command staff .

From 1985 to 1987 Nolting was a staff officer at the Deputy Inspector of the Navy and Chief of Staff in the Naval Staff . Then he took over command of the 5th Minesweeping Squadron in Olpenitz again as a troop command. In this function, he led a mixed mine defense association in Operation Südflanke , one of the Bundeswehr's first missions abroad .

In 1991 he became Adjutant Marine at the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr in Bonn. From 1992 onwards, Captain Nolting was then deployed as Branch Chief Force Planning at NATO headquarters in Brussels , Belgium . In 1993 he took over command of the flotilla of the mine forces in Wilhelmshaven, until 1995 he was appointed head of the department for strategy , conception and principles in the naval command staff in Bonn.

From 1996 onwards, Nolting was the chief of staff for leadership and planning in the naval command staff. He gave that post from 1998 to as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Logistics at the headquarters of the Allied Forces North West Europe in High Wycombe in the UK to serve. In 2001 Nolting was then head of the naval office in Rostock and in 2003 the commander of the fleet .

From May 2006 he was inspector of the Navy. During his term of office, German naval units were sent under the command of Flotilla Admiral Andreas Krause as part of the UNIFIL mission to the Lebanese coast in mid-September 2006. On April 28, 2010, Nolting handed over the post of Inspector of the Navy to Rear Admiral Axel Schimpf .

Volunteering

On April 21, 2012 Nolting was succeeded by Rear Admiral a. D. Klaus-Peter Hirtz elected chairman of the Marine Officers Association (MOV).

He is with Monika Nolting geb. Ahlbrand is married and has two grown children.
