Jean Martens
Jean Martens (born May 23, 1961 ) is a Rear Admiral in the German Navy and, as of August 2017, Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Department and Head of Division I in the Federal Ministry of Defense .
Military background
Martens joined the Navy in 1980 and completed his officer training with Crew VII / 80 . After studying economics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg, several uses followed on the speedboats .
From 2001 to 2003 he was frigate captain in command of the 2nd Schnellbootgeschwader. In this function Martens was also deployed from February to June 2002 as leader of Task Unit 500.01.02, which was part of the first German contingent in Operation Enduring Freedom . It consisted of the tender Danube , the system support group and 5 speedboats of classes 143 and 143A .
Martens later became a personnel manager in the Bundeswehr personnel office . From 2012 to April 30, 2013 he was Head of the Marine Division in the Personnel Department at the Federal Ministry of Defense, Bonn.
From May 1, 2013 to the end of April 2015, Flotilla Admiral Martens was Commander of Operation Flotilla 1. During this time, he was Deputy Operation Commander of the EU Operation ATALANTA in Northwood, England, from July 19, 2013 to January 17, 2014 , used.
From April 2015 to August 2017 Martens was the head of the operations department in the naval command in Rostock as the successor to Rear Admiral Hans-Christian Luther . In August 2017, Martens, succeeding Major General Klaus von Heimendahl , became Deputy Head of Armed Forces Management.
