The Personnel Office of the Bundeswehr (PersABw) was the central personnel processing office for officer candidates (OA) and officers in the careers of the troop service, the medical service, the military music service and the geo-information service of the Bundeswehr up to and including grade A 15 ( lieutenant colonel ) as well as for officers in the military service (OffzMilFD) of all branches of the armed forces and organizational areas. It was also concerned with recruiting for the armed forces.

The PersABw was responsible for around 43,000 active officer candidates and officers (corresponds to around 94 percent; the remaining officers from grade A 16 ( Colonel ) were assigned to the Federal Ministry of Defense ) and for around 30,000 reserve officers and reserve officer candidates in the Bundeswehr . The central personnel management for NCOs with portepee ( sergeant ranks or boatmen) was at the main office of the Bundeswehr , for NCOs without portepee and crews with the associations and units .

As part of the realignment of the Bundeswehr , the Personnel Office also took over the personnel management of the highest in grade A 16 on April 1, 2012 and was absorbed into the Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Bundeswehr (as BAPersBw Abt III) on May 1, 2013 .

The personnel office of the Bundeswehr, with around 700 soldiers and civilian employees, was based in the Cologne-Westhovener Mudra barracks , which was named after the Prussian infantry general Bruno von Mudra .
