Hans-Jörg Detlefsen

Hans-Jörg Detlefsen (* 1963 in Böel , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German naval officer and currently in the rank of Flotilla Admiral Commander, Maritime Air NATO and Deputy Chief of Staff, Maritime Air in the Allied Maritime Command of NATO in Northwood , Great Britain .

Military career

Detlefsen joined the German Navy in 1983 and was trained as a naval pilot. From 1989 he was deployed in Marinefliegergeschwader 2 (MFG 2) on the Panavia Tornado weapon system , on which he completed over 2000 flight hours until 2004. In MFG 2 he served from 1999 as a squadron captain and from 2003 to 2004 as the last commander of the flying group, until the MFG 2 was decommissioned and the Navy surrendered its tornadoes.

From 1997 to 1999 he took part in the admiralty staff training at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg , became adjutant to the commander of the fleet and a consultant in the Federal Ministry of Defense , before returning to the command academy as a tutor in 2004.

From 2006 to 2008 Detlefsen was a frigate captain and one of the adjutants to the Federal Minister of Defense. In 2008 he was promoted to sea captain at the German Military Representative at the Military Committee of the European Union .

Detlefsen returned to naval aviation in 2012 and became deputy commander and chief of staff in the naval aviation command before becoming its commander in December 2013. In 2016, he joined the Politics department of the Federal Ministry of Defense as head of the division. In 2017 he also moved to the Federal Chancellery as head of department . In this role, he headed an inter-ministerial working group on hybrid threats in 2018.

On June 27, 2019, Detlefsen began his current role as flotilla admiral in the Allied Maritime Command.
