Christian Bock (born August 18, 1969 ) is a German flotilla admiral and commander of the operational flotilla 1 and (associated with it) director of the COECSW of NATO in Kiel .

Military background

Training and first uses

Bock joined the (then) German Navy as a member of Crew VII / 88 in 1988 . He completed his training as a naval officer, including studies at the University of the Federal Armed Forces from 1989 to 1993. Subsequently, from 1993 to 1994 he completed the A courses to become a rifle officer at the naval weapons school in Eckernförde . From 1994 to 1997 Bock was used as a navigation officer and later as the first watch officer on mine-hunting boats of the Lindau class (class 331B) and supply ships of the Lüneburg class (class 701). This was followed in 1997 by his first ministerial assignment in the protocol department of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin , before Bock completed the B courses at the Naval Operations School in Bremerhaven . In 1998, Bock became the commandant of the Kulmbach mine-hunting boat (class 333) . From 2000 to 2001 he was employed as a speaker in Section Fü MI 1 Basic Personnel Requirements; Inner guidance; International cooperation in the naval headquarters in Bonn . From 2001 to 2003, Bock completed his admiralty training at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg .

Service as a staff officer

His first assignment as a staff officer led Bock from 2003 to 2005 to the headquarters of the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation in Norfolk ( USA ). There he was employed as an adjutant to the Assistant Chief of Staff Implementation and later to the Deputy Chief of Staff Transformation . This was followed by a position as staff officer S3 and deputy commander of the 3rd mine sweeping squadron in Kiel. From 2007 to 2008 he was employed as a consultant in the operational command of the Federal Ministry of Defense , before Bock became commander of the 5th mine sweeping squadron in Kiel in 2008. From 2010 to 2012 another ministerial assignment in the staff department Fü S VI (planning) in the command staff of the armed forces in Bonn followed. From 2012 to 2013 Bock was deployed as deputy head of department 222 ( military aspects of security policy; troop service matters of the Bundeswehr; Federal Security Council ) in the Federal Chancellery . From 2013 to 2015, Bock was deployed as head of Einsatzgruppe 5 ( Maritime Operations and Horn of Africa ) in the Bundeswehr operations command in Geltow . From 2015 to 2018 he was employed as Head of Planning I 1 ( conception; goal setting; networked security; future analysis; capability profile Bw (target) ) in the planning department at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn.

Service as an admiral

On April 19, 2018, Bock was appointed Flotilla Admiral, successor to Flotilla Admiral Jan Christian Kaack as Commander of Operation Flotilla 1 and Director of NATO's COECSW in Kiel.
