Supreme Allied Commander Transformation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Supreme Allied Command Transformation ( SACT ) is the Supreme Commander of the Allied Command Transformation of NATO in Norfolk (Virginia) .

Emergence

Originally, the operational NATO high command was divided into the areas of responsibility “Europe” ( Supreme Allied Commander Europe ; SACEUR ) and “Atlantic” ( Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic ; SACLANT ). However, this separation was abolished in 2003 in the course of a reformation and transformation of the NATO command structure and the post of SACLANT was given up. As a result, a new command area was created: Supreme Allied Commander Transformation ( SACT ), which deals with the change and adaptation of NATO structures to new circumstances.

management

The post is occupied by a general or an admiral . From 2003 to 2009, the SACT was also the commander of the US Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) and thus an American. Since France's return to the integrated NATO command structure in 2009, France has assumed the post of command of SACT. In September 2009, Général d'armée aérienne Stéphane Abrial , Chief of Staff of the French Air Force since 2006 , took over the post of SACT in Norfolk. His deputy, the Deputy SACT ( DSACT ), was first a British and then an Italian admiral. In 2010, a Polish general took on this task for the first time . In April 2016, a German admiral took over this post. The chairman of the NATO military committee is subordinate to the SACT , but it only has a political function.
