André Lanata (born October 10, 1961 in Bastia , Corsica ) is a Général d'armée aérienne of the French Air Force .

Military career

Promotions

Lanata began his military career at the École de l'air in 1981. By 1984 he was trained as a jet pilot, and was first an operational pilot on the Mirage F1CR and then, from 1990, squadron chief in the reconnaissance unit Escadron de reconnaissance 1/33 Belfort in Strasbourg . From 1991 he was an operations officer of the sister unit Escadron de reconnaissance 2/33 Savoie . From 1993 to 1995 Lanata was a consultant for reconnaissance programs in the Etat-Major de l'armée de l'air , the General Staff of the Air Force in Paris . From 1995 he took part in the French general staff training at the Collège interarmées de défense , also in Paris. From 1996 he was first deputy group commander and finally group commander of the Escadron de chasse 2/3 Champagne at Base aérienne 133 in Nancy . Here he flew the Mirage 2000D . Another employment as a general staff officer followed in the planning department of the French general staff. Another staff assignment followed as a staff officer for joint forces and force protection . From 2004 to 2006 Lanata was the commander of Base aérienne 188, the French air force base in Djibouti . After that, from 2006 onwards, he was appointed as deputy head of department and finally as head of department in the planning department of the General Staff of the Air Force. From 2008 to 2011 he was employed in the French Ministry of Defense as a directeur adjoint affaires internationales et stratégiques. The Direction générale des relations internationales et de la stratégie is responsible in particular for coordinating defense policy with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . In 2015 he became Chief of Staff of the Air Force. He was succeeded in this post on August 31, 2018 by General Philippe Lavigne . Lanata has been Supreme Allied Commander Transformation since September 11, 2018 . Here he succeeded General Denis Mercier .

Lanata is a pilot with more than 3,300 flight hours, mostly on the Mirage F1CR and Mirage 2000D. He has flown 146 combat missions in six different missions.

Private

Lanata is the son of Vincent Lanata, also a Général d'armée aérienne. Lanata is married with five children.
