Current structure

The highest military authority in the Polish armed forces is the General Staff of the Polish Army (Sztab Generalny Wojska Polskiego (SG WP)) in Warsaw. Two independent commands are subordinate to the General Staff. The General Command of the Polish Armed Forces (Dowództwo Generalne Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych (DG RSZ)) is responsible for the readiness of the forces. The Army Inspectorate is subordinate to this authority. The Operations Command of the Polish Armed Forces (Dowództwo Operacyjne Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych (DO RSZ)) is responsible for military operations, to which the Center for Land Operations reports.

Ministry of National Defense ( Ministerstwa Obrony Narodowej ( MON )) ( Warsaw )

  • General Staff of the Polish Army ( Sztab Generalny Wojska Polskiego ( SG WP )) ( Warsaw )
    • General Command of the Polish Armed Forces ( Dowództwo Generalne Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych ( DG RSZ ))
      • Army Inspectorate ( Wojsk Lądowych Inspectorate )
    • Operations Command of the Polish Armed Forces ( Dowództwo Operacyjne Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych ( DO RSZ ))
      • Center for Land Operations - Command of the Land Component "Weapons General Władysław Anders " ( Centrum Operacji Lądowych - Dowództwo Components Lądowego im. Gen. Broni Władysława Andersa ( COL - DKL )) ( Kraków )

The units of the army are subordinate to the General Command of the Polish Armed Forces. If necessary, units are subordinated to the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces and integrated into the land component for operations. The Polish Army is divided into seven branches of service:

  • Armored and Mechanized Troops ( Wojska Pancerne i Zmechanizowane ) - includes armored, mechanized and mountain troops .
  • Airmobile Troops ( Wojska Aeromobilne ) - includes the paratroopers, air cavalry (both airmobile infantry and transport helicopters) and the attack helicopter units.
  • Missile and artillery troops ( Wojska Rakietowe i Artylerii ) - contain the field artillery - and the multiple missile launchers
  • Army Air Defense Forces ( Wojska Obrony Przeciwlotniczej ) - includes both guided missile and anti-aircraft gun units.
  • Engineer Troops ( Wojska Inżynieryjne ) - includes both combat engineer and civil engineer units
  • NBC defense troops ( Wojska Chemiczne ) - organized in two regiments
  • Reconnaissance and EloKa troops ( Wojska Rozpoznania i Walki Elektronicznej ) - contain both mechanized battlefield reconnaissance units and electronic warfare units

In addition, there are units and facilities that belong to cross-armed forces and services, but are integrated into the army units at the tactical level:

  • Liaison and informatics troops ( Wojska Łączności i Informatyki ) - organizationally in the Inspectorate for Information Systems ( Inspektorat Systemów Informacyjnych ( ISI )).
  • Units of Logistic Support ( Jednostki wsparcia logistycznego ) - organizationally in the Support Inspectorate of the Armed Forces ( Inspektorat Wsparcia Sił Zbrojnych ( IWsp SZ )), roughly corresponding to the German armed forces base .
  • Military Medical Service ( Wojskowa Służba Zdrowia ) - subordinate to the Military Inspectorate of the Medical Service ( Inspectorate Wojskowej Służby Zdrowia ( IWSZ )).
  • Training institutions ( Ośrodki Szkolenia ) - organizationally in the Ministry of Defense.
  • Warsaw Garrison Command ( Dowództwo Garnizonu Warszawa ( DGW )) - the majority of the members of the Warsaw garrison are wearing army uniforms (guards, security units, etc.), the structure is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Defense.

The newly established Territorial Defense Force ( Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej ( WOT )) is a reserve army component with its own command and is therefore not part of the army.
