The WR-40 Langusta ( W yrzutnia R akietowa 40) is a Polish multiple rocket launcher system manufactured by Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW). It is used to combat area targets.
Development history
The multiple missile system WR-40 Langusta is a modernized variant of the Soviet BM-21 artillery missile system "Grad" , which was developed in Poland by the arms company Huta Stalowa Wola and is currently being produced. The first vehicle was put into service with the Polish Army in 2007 ; in the medium term, all BM-21-degree systems still in army stocks are to be replaced by the WR-40 or taken out of service.
vehicle
The vehicle base of the WR-40 is the 6 × 6 Jelcz P662D.35 truck , which is supplied by the Polish vehicle manufacturer Jelcz . The driver's cab of the WR-40 is lightly armored and offers protection in accordance with STANAG 4569 against fire from handguns , mines and shrapnel . The vehicle is powered by the IVECO aifo CURSOR 8 in- line six-cylinder diesel engine (EURO 3) with an output of 259 kW. The truck has a central tire pressure monitoring system . The WR-40 Langusta can be transported on transport aircraft the size of a C-130 Hercules .
Armament
The rear-mounted 122.4 mm rocket launcher has 40 launcher tubes and can fire standard and newly developed rockets made in Poland. The starter has an elevation range from 0 ° to + 55 °, the side alignment range from the center line of the chassis is 70 ° to the right and 102 ° to the left. The WR-40 can fire missiles with high explosive (HE) warheads with a maximum range of 42 km. The missiles with cluster munitions can hit targets at a distance of 20 miles. The standard WR-40 missile weighs 66.4 kg. The crew can reload the multiple missile system manually within seven minutes. The WR-40 can fire a full volley (40 rounds) within 20 seconds .
Langusta 2
The Langusta-2 system is based on an 8 × 8 truck from Jelcz and carries a complete reload set of missiles. The launch vehicle itself has its own reloading system, similar to that of the Czechoslovak RM-70 . A full set of missiles should be reloaded in less than two minutes. So far only prototypes of this version exist.
