Jelcz is a Polish commercial vehicle manufacturer .
The company was founded in 1952 as a state-owned company for the production of chassis and initially located in the halls of a former armaments factory in Jelcz-Laskowice . 1954 began with the production of the first own bus Stonka (German potato beetle ). In 1960, with the Żubr (German wisent ), series production of the first heavy truck from Poland began as a supplement to the models from the Polish manufacturer Star . In 1995 the company was privatized and listed on the stock exchange as a stock corporation .
The company was partially liquidated in 2008 and taken off the stock exchange in 2012. It stopped the production of buses and concentrated on the construction of trucks and special military vehicles. The engines are now supplied by Cummins , Iveco , MAN and Mercedes-Benz . The Polish manufacturers Feber , Wielton and Zasław , however, are largely responsible for equipping the vehicles with bodies and trailers .
