Huta Stalowa Wola SA (in German Hütte Stahlerner Wille ; abbreviation HSW SA ) is an armaments company and steel producer from the Polish town of Stalowa Wola . HSW is the most important supplier for the Polish military .

Company history

Huta Stalowa Wola was founded before the Second World War, in 1938/1939, during the Second Polish Republic . A business location was specifically selected that was outside the borders with Germany and the Soviet Union . The city of Stalowa Wola was built around the industrial complex. In October 1939, the Third Reich took control of the steelworks and the affiliated companies. From June 1940 until the departure of the German occupiers on August 1, 1944, the industrial complex was continued under the name "Braunschweig Steel Works - Stalowa Wola Plant". In the 1960s and 1970s, the company began producing heavy construction machinery alongside armaments , and in the 1980s it was an important center of the Polish opposition . In 1991, after the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, Huta Stalowa Wola was converted into a public limited company. It is still one of the largest employers in the city and a major manufacturer of military equipment in Poland. On February 1, 2012, the construction machinery division operating under the name of Dressta was sold to the Chinese company Guangxi Liugong Machinery , and in the same year the Polish truck manufacturer Jelcz-Kompenty Sp. Z OO was acquired .
