The Hæren ( German Royal Danish Army) forms the army component of Danske Forsvar with 13,580 soldiers (6000 of them conscripts ) .
structure
Until October 1, 2014, the Danish Army had its own Operative Command of the Army ( Hærens Operative Kommando ( HOK )). On that day, the operational commands of the Army, Navy and Air Force were combined in a new Joint Defense Command ( Værnsfælles Forsvarskommando ( VFK )). The Army Staff ( Hærstaben ) was created as the highest organizational authority in the army . He is responsible for the readiness of the army units. Thus, the army staff corresponds to the naval staff ( naval staff ) and the air force staff ( flyverstaben ). All three are located at the Karup air base. Since July 1, 2015, the Jägerkorps ( Jægerkorpset , the land-based Danish special forces unit) is no longer part of the army. The corps was integrated into the special operations command ( Specialoperationskommandoen ( SOKOM )) together with the Frogmenkorps ( Frømandskorpset , the naval combat swimmer unit ).
In 2017, the Danish Army consisted of unit staffs, operational support centers and regiments.
The Danish division ( Danske Division , stationed in the Haderslev barracks, Haderslev ) was restructured from a standing large association into an operational divisional staff after the defense agreement of 2005-2009 ( Forsvarsforliget 2005-2009 ). According to NATO military structures, Lithuanian , Latvian and Estonian army units are subordinate to the division in the event of a crisis or defense . With the Defense Agreement of 2013–2017, the Danish Division is designated as a training center for operational command and exercise planning as well as a development center for state doctrine. It is integrated into the Multinational Corps North-East and the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps .
The two brigades of the Danish Army are no longer standing large units, but operational brigade staffs , since in peacetime only units of the combat weapon types (one tank , one field reconnaissance and seven mechanized infantry battalions , including a training battalion for both brigades) are subordinate to them and combat - and logistics support is missing.
The combat support and logistics regiments were converted into support centers. This means that they are both centers of excellence and depots for the preparation of contingents that support the brigades during exercises and missions abroad.
The three combat regiments ( Jutland Dragoon Regiment , the Royal Life Guard and the Guard Hussar Regiment ) were retained. You are responsible for operations outside the structure of the army brigades. In general, these are representative tasks such as honor guard and military music , but also the repair of their barracks.
The Danish Army has nine combat units. Each brigade has a training battalion ( Uddannelsesbataljon ) mechanized infantry. The 1st Brigade is generally stationed on the Jutland Peninsula, but the only field reconnaissance battalion is subordinate to it. The remaining six (the tank battalion and five tank infantry battalions) are grouped in pairs. The unit of higher readiness is called Combat Battalion ( Kampbataljon ), that of lower readiness Kaderbataillon ( Kadrebataljon ).

Home Guard
The Danish Home Guard ( Hjemmeværnet ) is the fourth Danish arm and the reserve component for the other three - the army, the navy and the air force. To this end, it is also internally divided into these branches of service. The Heimwehr was organized into three total defense areas ( Totalforsvarsregioner ( TFR )) until 2016 . This year they were reduced to two parts of the country ( Landsdelsregion Øst og Vest , each led by a colonel of the army and assigned to six districts ). The Heimwehr Command ( Hjemmeværnskommandoen ( HJK )) reports directly to the Defense Minister in peacetime. In the event of war, it will be integrated into the Joint Defense Command.
The Army Home Guard ( Hærhjemmeværnet ( HHV )) is divided into three branches of service :
- the main forces are simply called the Heeresheimwehr - they are the light reserve infantry responsible for territorial security and surveillance.
- the Police Home Guard ( Politihjemmeværnet ( PHV )) is the Danish gendarmerie and is therefore subordinate to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice at the same time.
- the company home guard ( Virksomhedshjemmeværnet ( VHV )) is a type of repair weapon . It has rail, energy and telecommunications operating units. Since January 1, 2017, it is no longer an independent home defense structure.
structure
The Heeresheimwehr is divided into Landsdelsregion Øst and Landsdelsregion Vest . Each sub-region is led by an army colonel. The East sub-region and the West sub-region each contain six districts, which are led by army majors or lieutenant colonels. There are two special cases. In the east, the Bornholm Home Guard is a joint, cross-armed service command, which, in addition to two Army Home Defense Companies and a Police Home Defense Company, also includes an Air Force Home Army Squadron and a Marine Home Defense Flotilla (both are company equivalents). At the end of the Second World War the island of Bornholm was liberated from the Red Army and after the end of the war it was agreed between the United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union that the militarization of the island would be strictly limited. This gives the military units on Bornholm a special status. Their small number and the small surface area of the island make a common structure more useful. The geographical situation with the island of Ærø is similar. With an area of only 88 km² and isolated from the national transport network, the Army Home Service, Air Force Home Service and Marine Home Service Flotilla are brought together in a joint subdivision ( Værnsfællesunderafdeling Ærø ( VFUAER )) of the Army Home Service .
