Karup is a small Danish town in the municipality of Viborg and the Midtjylland region with 2225 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). During the Cold War, the place was the headquarters of the Allied Command Baltic Approaches (BALTAP), a NATO command that was located at the local military airfield , which is also used as a regional airport for civilians.
There are two war cemeteries at Gedhus south of Kølvrå and in Grove west of the airfield. In 1966 the remains of German soldiers and refugees from scattered cemeteries were reburied here. 1185 refugees and 148 soldiers are buried in Kølvrå, while 1119 refugees and 175 soldiers are buried in Grove.
There is a town partnership with the municipality of Kalocsa in Hungary and the municipality of Munkedal in Sweden.
